Tamiya 48219 German Panther Type G Late Version – 1:35 R/C tank with control unit
This 1:35 scale R/C tank assembly kit recreates the German Panther Type G late version, one of the most highly regarded tanks of the late stages of World War II. Praised by both German forces and Allied opponents for its excellent balance of firepower, mobility and protection, the Panther is often considered one of the finest tanks of the war. This kit represents the late-production Panther G and allows users to easily experience realistic tank operation via radio control.
The powerful silhouette with sloped armor is faithfully reproduced, capturing the distinctive look of the original vehicle. In addition to forward and reverse movement and left and right turning, the model offers tank-specific functions such as pivot turns, turret rotation and gun elevation and depression, all controlled via the included transmitter. A compact gearbox with small motors is installed at the front of the hull, while the pre-assembled turret rotation and gun elevation unit is mounted in the center. The MC-07 control unit, which manages the various movements, is located at the rear of the hull. All wiring connections use connectors for easy and reliable assembly.
The model features link-type assembled tracks that provide smooth, weighty movement even at low speeds. The hull is made from the same precision plastic used in Tamiya’s 1:35 Military Miniature series, giving the finished model an outstanding sense of scale realism. Painting and weathering can be freely applied to further enhance the authentic appearance.
About the Panther G late version:
The Panther tank was developed by Germany to counter the Soviet T-34 medium tank, which had rendered earlier German tanks obsolete during the Eastern Front battles. First deployed in 1943, the Panther combined sloped armor for excellent protection with a powerful Maybach HL230 P30 V12 gasoline engine producing 700 horsepower, allowing a top road speed of 55 km/h. It was armed with a long-barreled 7.5 cm L/70 tank gun, offering penetration performance comparable to the Tiger I’s 8.8 cm gun.
The G variant, regarded as the culmination of the Panther’s development, entered mass production in March 1944 as an improved version of the earlier D and A models. From late 1944, further refinements were introduced based on combat experience, including a redesigned gun mantlet with a squared lower edge to prevent shot deflection, flame-suppressing exhausts, and a crew heater unit mounted on the engine deck. Production of the Panther G continued until April 1945, when factories were captured by Allied forces, with a total of 2,953 units produced. The Panther G remained a mainstay of German armored forces until the very end of the war.
