Description
1:9 Kubelwagen Typ 82 Platinum Ed. Revell 03500
The Kübelwagen, also known as the Volkswagen Type 82, was a German light off-road vehicle of World War II. The first prototypes were developed between 1938 and 1939, and serial production ran from 1940 to 1945, with a total of around 53,000 vehicles being manufactured. The Kübelwagen was 3.74 meters long, 1.6 meters wide, and 1.65 meters high, and weighed up to 725 kilograms.
The Kübelwagen was powered by a 4-cylinder engine with 23 HP or 25 HP and a displacement of 1.0 or 1.1 liters, allowing it to reach a top speed of up to 80 km/h. It was based on the civilian VW Type 1 ("Beetle") and retained its rear-wheel drive (4x2).
Originally designed as a light off-road vehicle for the Wehrmacht, the Kübelwagen was intended to transport at least three soldiers as well as a machine gun and ammunition. After successful field trials and deployment in the Polish campaign in 1939, series production began in 1940 at the VW plant in Wolfsburg.
The Kübelwagen proved to be extremely successful and was used on all fronts until the end of the war, from North Africa to the Eastern Front. Its robust construction and versatility made it an indispensable part of the German armed forces. The Schwimmwagen, an amphibious vehicle, was also developed based on the Kübelwagen.
