1:35 US M21 Mortar Carrier Tamiya 35083

The United States military, recognizing the excellent off-road capabilities of half-tracks, began researching them in the late 1920s. During World War II, over 40,000 half-tracks were produced, including the M2 and M3 series. The M3 half-track chassis was used to produce many self-propelled artillery pieces, including the M21 mortar carrier, standardized in June 1943. The M3 chassis was equipped with an 81mm mortar and a heavy Browning 12.7mm machine gun. The M21 served as a mobile mortar position, notably active in the battle of Okinawa. After the war, it was used for training purposes until around 1960.
