Ford Escort Mk.II - Italeri 3655 - Plastic model kit of a rally car in 1:24 scale

The Ford Escort Mk 2 was launched in 1975 and represented a significant evolution from the Escort Mk 1, which debuted at the Brussels Motor Show in 1968. While the high-quality mechanics remained largely unchanged, the design was completely revamped to reflect the style of the 1970s. The model range was significantly expanded to include three body variants (2-door, 4-door, and the original 3-door station wagon), five engine options, and numerous trims. Mainly produced in the German Ford factories, the model was a commercial success. Besides the practical versions, there was also the Escort Sport with a sporty look and interior. Particularly noteworthy is the RS 1800 with a 115 HP DOHC engine, which served as the basis for the successful rally version. The Swedish duo Waldegård Björn and Thorszelius Hans won the Rally World Championship in 1979 after placing second at the Monte Carlo Rally. The team of Mikkola Hannu and Hertz Arnee also achieved remarkable success with a fifth-place finish in Monaco.
